On February 16, 2026, the Yamunanagar-Jagadhri Municipal Corporation (MC) held a special house meeting where it officially approved a balanced budget of ₹273.38 crore for the 2026–27 financial year.
This “Twin City” budget represents a roughly ₹10.4 crore increase from the previous year, with a heavy focus on infrastructure and sanitation.
Detailed Budget Breakdown
The budget is divided into two primary categories: revenue generation (Income) and urban improvement (Expenditure).
Where the Money is Going (Expenditure)
| Sector | Allocation | Key Highlights |
| Development Works | ₹90.35 Crore | Construction of streets, community centers, municipal buildings, and parks. |
| Sanitation & Waste | ₹34.02 Crore | Door-to-door garbage collection, vehicle maintenance, and Material Recovery Facility (MRF) centers. |
| Salaries & Pensions | ₹108.25 Crore | Fixed administrative costs for municipal staff and retired employees. |
| Ops & Maintenance | ₹20.32 Crore | Upkeep of existing city assets like streetlights, water supply, and drainage. |
| Safety & Tech | ₹20.00 Crore | Proposed for new traffic lights, CCTV surveillance, and smart street lighting. |
Where the Money is Coming From (Income)
- Government Grants: The largest chunk (₹141.41 crore) comes from State and Central Finance Commission grants.
- Local Taxes: ₹37 crore is expected from property and fire taxes.
- Stamp Duty: Projected income of ₹21 crore from property registrations.
- Asset Sales: The MC plans to generate ₹17.02 crore through the auction of municipal lands and shops.
Key Development Projects for 2026
Beyond the numbers, several specific projects were highlighted to transform the twin cities:
- Riverfront Development: A ₹10.35 crore project along the Western Yamuna Canal is set to begin, featuring walkways and recreational zones.
- Waste Recovery Centers: Three new Material Recovery Facilities (MRF) will be established in Shadipur, Kail village, and Gulab Nagar to improve waste segregation.
- Sewerage Overhaul: A massive ₹186 crore plan (partially funded through separate state schemes) is underway to lay 134 km of new sewage lines across both cities.
- Green Spaces: ₹6.14 crore has been earmarked to develop a grand park at Old Hamida Head.
Current Status & Concerns
While the budget is ambitious, local officials and councilors expressed concerns regarding recovery targets. In the previous year, the MC only managed to collect about ₹28 crore out of a ₹37 crore tax target by January. The new budget relies on meeting these collection goals to fund the promised infrastructure upgrades.
