Zero-Tolerance Directive for Yamuna Canal

In a significant move to rejuvenate the “Twin City’s” water bodies, the Haryana Vidhan Sabha’s Environment Pollution Committee has enforced a strict “Zero-Tolerance” policy regarding the discharge of waste into the Yamuna canal.

Following a high-level inspection on February 6, 2026, the committee issued a clear ultimatum: No untreated sewage or industrial effluent shall enter the canal under any circumstances.

Key Directive Points:

  • Targeted Inspections: Led by Chairman Laxman Singh Yadav, the committee scrutinized the Saraswati Sugar Mill’s STP and the Kail Solid Waste Management Plant. They warned that environmental safety is not a “mere formality” but a direct link to public health.
  • STP Infrastructure: The committee prioritized the completion of the 77-MLD (Million Liters per Day) Sewage Treatment Plant in Jammu Colony. Once operational by late 2026, this plant will be the primary shield for the Yamuna canal, treating the city’s urban sewage scientifically.
  • Strict Monitoring: Deputy Commissioner Preeti and local MLAs Ghanshyam Das Arora and Akram Khan were directed to conduct periodic water quality tests and immediate audits. Negligence in treatment protocols will now lead to severe legal penalties.
